I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but my plan is to spend 30 minuutes per day creating, planting and maintaining my garden This is going to be a challenge on a couple of fronts:
- limited time
- limited space
- several experiments
- house addition while I’m doing this
The plan is to have four different types of beds, and at least 14 different crops. These crops are all ones we eat, and they have to grow within our approximately three month growing period. Further, I’m going to try to dovetail in companion planting along with successive planting, so that the garden is productive throughout our season.
Planning could be squeezed into the 30 minutes per day, but as I’m starting late, I may take some extra time planning outside the 30 minutes. Ideally planning happens around January, when the catalogs come in, and cabin fever starts to bring out the grouch in most gardeners, save for Eliot Coleman. The books I’m relying on for information include:
- Carrots Love Tomatoes
- Lasagna Gardening: A New Layering System for Bountiful Gardens
- How to Grow World Record Tomatoes
- How to Grow More Vegetables and Fruits
…among others. I will be blogging about this on gardenhacker.com, and hopefully posting at least twice per week, if not more.
Wish me luck, and if you have any questions, please feel free to either email me directly or add a comment in the comments boxes, I’ll do my best to answer any questions you may have.
